NLMK Lipetsk (NLMK Group) has begun the commissioning and start-up of Continuous Casting Machine No. 9.
The equipment was installed in accordance with the enterprise’s development strategy until 2022 and is a large investment project: total investment reached RUR 12 bln ($164 mio).
The modernization of the equipment will allow for producing new kinds of products, including those that are unique for our country.
Thus, the upgraded machine will produce ‘heavy’ slabs (semi-finished steel products with a rectangular cross section; the width to height ratio can reach 15:1) with increased chemical purity and structural homogeneity.
The CCM will produce semis weighing up to 70 tons, up to 400 mm thick and up to 2,800 mm wide that will be later processed into thick plates.
