Russian brokerage inflows hit record as investors lock in high yields

Net inflows into brokerage accounts topped RUR 1 tln ($11.5 bln) in the second quarter, a 19% gain from the first quarter, the Bank of Russia reported.

That is the highest quarterly figure since the central bank began tracking the data in 2021. Qualified investors accounted for nearly two-thirds of the new money, while the total value of Russian assets held in brokerage accounts climbed to RUR 13.6 tln ($157 bln).

Demand centered on long-term OFZ government bonds and medium-term corporate debt, as investors moved to lock in elevated coupon rates ahead of an anticipated easing cycle.

Separately, net purchases of Russian equities more than doubled over the same period, jumping from RUR 48 bln in Q1 to RUR 101 bln ($1.17 mln) in Q2. The broad market decline gave buyers a chance to pick up shares at steep discounts.
