Number of software developers to grow five-fold in Russia


The number of government scholarships for training IT-specialists is to increase five-fold by 2024. As many as 120,000 specialists will be graduating every year, said Oleg Podolsky, coordinator of the Digital Economy Personnel Competencies Center for the Digital Economy National Project.

The Russian government will add more scholarships to cover the tuition for students majoring in computer science, computer engineering, software developer, automated special purpose systems, information security, as well as mathematics, radio engineering and electronics.

According to Oleg Podolsky, grants will be also provided to high schools whose graduates showed high results in competitions and Olympiads in mathematics and computer science. By 2021, grants will be allocated to 255 schools, of which 85 will receive the funding before the end of 2019. Five universities will also receive grants to create international science and methodology centers for conducting research, studying the best international practices of training and retraining of digital economy personnel in mathematics, computer science and technology.

As many as 10 million Russians are to be trained in digital literacy programs from 2019 to 2024; 1 million people will receive personal digital certificates – documents making them entitled to subsidies for gaining digital economy competencies.
