Major advances in AI implementation expected in five years

Within the next five years, the world can expect industrial and corporate implementation of Artificial Intelligence to finally emerge as a technological breakthrough after the initial hype. The opinion belongs to Andrzej Arshavsky, Head of Data Analysis and Modelling at Gazprom Neft, who spoke at the roundtable discussion Are Russian Businesses Ready for Digital Transformation? on September 17 at RIA Novosti.

“In five years we will shift from discussing new technologies to their large-scale implementation. AI technology is mature enough to be used in production and business management,” the expert noted.

He added that AI defeated humans in chess long time ago and chess is a difficult game.

“Then why can’t Artificial Intelligence replace top executives in production? Why can’t it take more efficient decisions? The thing is in chess it has all the information about all possible moves that were recorded for many years. The machine can use this data for learning. We don’t have the same amount of in-depth data on every single machine used in production. Moreover, chessboard looks the same as it was hundreds of years ago when it was just invented while production is constantly changing and expanding with new tools,” Andrzej Arshavsky said.

The speaker pointed out that AI helps businesses to profit not only from increasing efficiency but also from increasing security.

“Robots allow reducing the number of hazardous and labor-consuming jobs. Workers can retrain and move on from monotonous tasks. Therefore, I believe that digital transformation in the labor market will have a bigger positive influence than negative.”
