Apple now displays Crimea and Sevastopol as Russia’s territories

Vasily Piskarev, Chairman of the Committee on Security and Counteracting Corruption of the State Duma (lower house of the Russian parliament) met today with Darya Ermolina, who represents interests of Apple in Russia, Duma’s website reports.

Ermolina informed the Chairman of the Committee that inaccuracies in explicitly displaying the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol as the territories of the Russian Federation, were eventually rectified in the Maps and Weather apps on Apple devices.

Piskarev noted that Apple met its obligations and brought the applications on its devices in compliance with the requirements of the Russian legislation. He emphasized that the Committee on Security and Counteracting Corruption and the Commission on the Investigation of External Interference in Russia’s Internal Affairs will continue safeguarding the constitution and the sovereignty of the country.
