Azerbaijan: Reduction in carbon dioxide emissions

Azerbaijan successfully reduces carbon dioxide emissions, Deputy Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Rauf Hajiyev said at the presentation of the EU4Climate project in Baku, Trend news agency reports.

Azerbaijan cooperates with the UN in many respects, and the new project’s goal is to mitigate climate change, he said, noting that Azerbaijan joined many projects to combat climate change at the global level. Azerbaijan is known for its oil resources, yet over past years emissions in the country halved.

The EU4Climate project is being implemented to help the Eastern Partnership countries in combating climate change, drafting a strategy for the development of respective preventive measures, and incorporating climate change issues into the main states’ policies.

The project is to be implemented by 2022 in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine.
