Bank of Russia may issue 50-ruble coin

The Central Bank of Russia may soon issue a 50-ruble coin, with representatives of vending machine business lobbying the effort.

The new coin is required for vending machines for giving change. However, representatives of the Bank of Russia are considering whether the effort will be reasonable. With non-cash payments rapidly increasing in the country, new coins may be irrelevant, they said.

The new coin should be issued only in case it will be in circulation within at least 20-30 years, the bank representatives noted. The possibility will be analyzed shortly, Gazeta.ru reported.

The Central Bank has assured the coin can be issued promptly if required.

Currently, Russia has coins of 1-, 2-, 5- and 10-ruble value in circulation, as well as kopeck coins.
