Cheburashka directed by Dmitry Dyachenko has become the top-grossing Russian film in the history of Russian film screenings, TASS reports citing the Federal Automated Information System on Theater Screenings.
Cheburashka soared to the top in just ten days of the New Year holidays by grossing RUB 3,082,245,827 ($45,185,723) and outperforming the previous record holder, Serf, with a total box office of RUB 3,082,031,790 ($45,182,586).
The new family comedy tells the story of Cheburashka’s adventures in a town by the sea.
Created by author Eduard Uspensky, Cheburashka became hugely popular thanks to Gena the Crocodile, a 1969 animated film by Roman Kachanov. The new film features a CGI character.
