Cheburashka soared to the top in just ten days of the New Year holidays by grossing RUB 3,082,245,827 ($45,185,723) and outperforming the previous record holder, Serf, with a total box office of RUB 3,082,031,790 ($45,182,586).

The new family comedy tells the story of Cheburashka’s adventures in a town by the sea.

Created by author Eduard Uspensky, Cheburashka became hugely popular thanks to Gena the Crocodile, a 1969 animated film by Roman Kachanov. The new film features a CGI character.
