Coronavirus may affect almost entire world’s population – experts

In the worst-case scenario, the coronavirus may infect two thirds of the world’s population, Adviser to the World Health Organization Ira Longini said.

According to Longini, the quarantine may slow the spread of the epidemic. However, the virus had the opportunity to roam in China and beyond before the preventive measures went into effect, which means that it could not be contained, RIA Novosti new agency reports.

Longini added that each infected person normally transmits the disease to two to three other people. Therefore, even if the transmission could be reduced by half, one third of the world would become infected.
