The government’s lack of competence, including law enforcement, is Russia’s biggest problem, according to Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev who spoke at a plenary session of the Gaidar Forum hosted by the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation (RANEPA).

The Prime Minister noted that the Russian government needs to retrain approximately 1 mio professionals. The Russian education system is not fully up to the challenge as “students and teachers are speaking different languages.”

“It is not the fault of students but their teachers,” Dmitry Medvedev said.

The head of the government added that employment amidst digitization remains the biggest challenge for Russia along with the people who will not fit in the new technology environment. These challenges, the Prime Minister believes, require paradigm shifts in the social and tax policies which, according to Medvedev, “is still a question without a clear answer” but the answer “needs to be found as soon as possible.”
