According to the Association of European Businesses (AEB), in May Russian car lovers mostly purchased cards of the lower price segment.
The top-3 list is headed by LADA Granta, followed by LADA Vesta and the affordable Korean sedan KIA Rio.
As for sales volume, the Granta, which costs some RUR 350K ($5K) with all discounts offered by official dealerships, was purchased 5,726 times. The association does not have information about the brand’s modifications, but this number includes sedans, liftbacks, station vagons and hatchbacks.
The LADA Vesta (the base price RUR 490K ($7K) with all discounts), was sold to 4,475 customers.
The KIA Rio (pricing begins from RUR 640K ($9.3K) was purchased 3,655 times.
Naturally, in May 2020, sales dropped due to the coronavirus pandemic and the reduced demand: sales of Grantas and Vestas dropped by 48% and 49%, respectively, while the Rio lost 56%.
In June, the car market is expected to drop again. According to AEB, in May it fell by 51.8%; most dealerships expect the same in June: the market will lose 50% as compared to the same period last year.
