Full-scale recovery of global economic ties will take a long time – FM

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s interview with the RBC news agency was published by the website of Russia’s Foreign Ministry.

Speaking of the current pandemic, Lavrov said, “Many COVID-19 response measures are being taken at random because nobody knows for sure how to effectively counter this infection. Decisions are made in response to immediate epidemiological challenges. These measures are seriously restricting the usual life of states, societies, every individual and every family.”

In his view, “Full-scale recovery of global economic and cultural ties, as well as simply people-to-people contacts, will take a long time. An absolutely open system of interaction that existed before the pandemic will no longer exist, and defensive medical measures will be taken.”

No matter, how situation may develop, “I don’t expect the freedom we had before,” he concluded.
