Giant excavator launched in Yakutia

A powerful walking excavator began working at the Elga coal project in Yakutia.

The machine has been supplied by the Uralmashzavod heavy engineering company and is designed to operate in difficult climatic conditions characteristic of the region, including at temperatures as low as minus 40 degrees. The cost of the excavator exceeds RUR 1 bln ($16 mio). The project in Yakutia is being implemented by Elgaugol, which is a unit of the Mechel group.

The Elga coal deposit is the largest in Russia by its coking coal reserves, which are close to 2.2 bln tons. It has been developed for the past eight years.
