
There are plans to launch a high-speed train between Makhachkala, the capital of Daghestan Republic in the south of Russia, and Baku, Azerbaijani capital, Trend news agency reported.
Simplified customs procedures are envisaged for the passengers of this route, Vladimir Vasilev, Head of Daghestan, said.
“The train on the Makhachkala-Baku route will pass through Derbent city, he added. “This was discussed by the relevant ministries of the two republics.”
The launch of the railway route will increase tourist flow between Azerbaijan and Daghestan. Derbent is already most popular among tourists. Thanks to a special financing program, the city will become even more attractive.
