Innovative pulp and paper complex to be built in Russia’s Krasnoyarsk Territory

Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Alexander Uss and Segezha Group Management Company have signed an agreement on establishing a biotechnology complex in Lesosibirsk.

The innovative complex will specialize in the production of bleached sulfate pulp, which is used to make paper and other goods. It will be Russia’s first pulp and paper production facility built in the past 40 years. It will be more environmentally friendly than the plants built during the Soviet times. The project will receive $1.5 bln in investment. The creation of the innovative complex will be part of the Yeniseiskaya Sibir investment project.

“There are special contemporary environmental standards; as we know, the Baikal Pulp and Paper Plant was shut down in 2013 because it polluted Lake Baikal,” economist Dmitry Afanasyev said. “Enterprises focused on environmental safety and energy efficiency will be increasingly in demand.”
