Lipetsk Region to launch large-scale prebiotics production

A prebiotics production plant will start operating in Russia’s Lipetsk Region as early as next year.

Prebiotics are special non-digestible compounds in food that go through the upper part of the human gastrointestinal tract undigested. They are fermented by beneficial microorganisms in the large bowel and stimulate their growth and activity.

The plant will be Russia’s first facility of the kind, with an estimated amount of RUR 2.7 bln ($37.6) to be invested in the project. The production will be based in the Dankov special economic zone, which specializes in manufacturing such substances as inulin, a prebiotic that is used by microorganisms in the digestive system that has a positive effect on blood sugar levels.
