LUKOIL opens research center in Nizhny Novgorod Region

A research center engaged in the development of bituminous materials has opened in Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod Region.

The project was launched by LUKOIL, Russia’s largest private oil company. The new center is fitted with innovative equipment to simulate traffic loads and climate conditions for testing bitumen and asphalt concretes used in road construction. This is Russia’s only center that employs over 70 methods to test bituminous materials.

“The center’s strategic objective is to become an integrated platform for the interaction between road construction organizations and the scientific community to deal with the current issues of road infrastructure development,” said LUKOIL President Vagit Alekperov. “The development of cutting-edge bituminous materials with regard to the climate of Russian regions will significantly improve the quality of roads in the country.”

“The production of road construction materials is quite promising; this area is developing rapidly and the government is ready to invest in road construction. LUKOIL can become a leader on this market, given its huge financial resources,” said commodity market analyst Dmitry Alexandrov.
