Ministry of Industry and Trade showed development of Putin’s limo

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has posted on its Facebook page a video that demonstrates the production of the Aurus Senat Limousine of the Cortege project, designed specifically for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The video shows the development of the limousine’s design and layout, its engine, the assembly process, painting and other details.

“This is not just a new Russian car – Russia has developed the competencies and facilities for commercial production of reliable cars. The project involved the best Russian engineers and designers, new technologies and equipment,” the Ministry reported.

Users of social networks and experts note that the Aurus exterior strongly resembles the representative class English Rolls-Royce.

The task of creating a line of new Russian cars based on the Unified Modular Platform was set in 2013. The Sollers plant in Tatarstan is expected to begin the production of the Aurus next year. Earlier, Vladimir Putin used a German-made Mercedes-Benz S600 Pullman limousine. As the media has repeatedly noted, he continued to use it recently.

In Soviet times and in the 1990s, the leaders of the country used cars manufactured by domestic plants ZIL (previously ZIS, closed in 2013) and GAZ, including the legendary GAZ-13 Chaika.
