Mishustin toughens penalty for quarantine violation

The Russian Government will develop measures to toughen penalty for violating quarantine during the coronavirus pandemic, as per instructions by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

The instructions were given to the Interior Ministry, the Economic Development Ministry and the Justice Ministry. The ministries in charge are to develop proposals regarding punitive measures. Meanwhile, the Healthcare Ministry will be responsible for developing guidelines on handling coronavirus patients, RBC reports.

Head of the Federal Supervision Service for Consumer Protection and Welfare agreed that quarantine must be a mandatory isolation. United Russia party has already drafted a bill increasing fines for breaching quarantine.
