Mobile phone detection cameras to appear in Moscow

The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate plans to install traffic cameras to catch mobile phone users in Moscow. The State Duma suggests the fine is raised to RUR 5K ($63).

Such cameras will not be used all over the city yet. The manufacturer has to conduct trials and receive certificates that they operate correctly. Thus, the cameras will be first used in a test mode, Kommersant daily writes.

Traffic tickets will be then sent to car owners by mail. If it was not the owner of the car who violated the rules, the ticket will be sent to the actual driver.

Russia banned cell phone use by drivers in 2001. Since 2013, the fine for the violation has been RUR 1.5K ($19).
