Moscow Exchange to launch bitcoin index

The Moscow Exchange will begin calculating a bitcoin index starting Tuesday, June 10, according to an official announcement.

The trading platform will publish values for the new MOEX PFI Bitcoin Index daily.

The bitcoin index will be calculated using price data from perpetual futures and swaps on the BTC/USD pair from four major crypto exchanges (Binance, Bybit, OKX, and Bitget).

Experts view the launch of a bitcoin index on the Moscow Exchange as a strategic move toward integrating the crypto market into Russia’s regulated financial sector. This instrument sets an important precedent: institutional investors will now have an official price benchmark, which could accelerate the legalization of crypto assets under the Bank of Russia’s jurisdiction.

The limited publication frequency (once per day) reduces the index’s practical utility for traders but aligns with the exchange’s conservative model, where most instruments trade within a daily clearing framework.
