Muscovites pay most traffic violation fines

Muscovites have paid a total of RUR 14.7 bln ($231.6 mio) in fines for traffic violations last year, according to a FinExpertiza research.

Overall in 2018, Russians paid a total of RUR 71.3 bln ($1.1 bln) in fines, which is 3.38% higher year-on-year. However, the growth is less than the inflation rate. Muscovites pay the largest amount of fines. In 2018, they paid RUR 14.7 bln ($231.6 mio) for traffic violations. Residents of the Moscow Region came second (RUR 5.37 bln or $84.6 mio) and Tatarstan (RUR 2.97 bln or $46.8 mio). Chukotka, Nenets Autonomous Area and Magadan Region account for the smallest amount of fines.

The total amount of fines paid by Russians in 2018 increased by RUR 2.33 bln ($36.7 mio) compared to 2017. Interestingly, in certain regions the total amount of fines paid for traffic violations increased while in others it went down.
