One million dollar idea: St. Petersburg coffee shop paints portraits of customers waiting in line

A small coffee shop in St. Petersburg, Sokolkofe, found a new way to entertain its customers while they are waiting for their coffee. Young artists from art schools in branded aprons paint portraits of the customers while barista is making their coffee. The artist makes sure to ask about the customer’s mood and reflect it in the portrait. Sounds like an excellent idea and a nice side hustle (and internship) for the students, Moskvichmag reports.

Coffee shops around the world are competing in customer entertainment. The tradition is particularly strong in New York. Some draw pictures with coffee foam on milk foam as they prepare your cappuccino. The others manage to offer them personalized greetings using the Facebook face recognition feature – and even name the city from which the customer arrived on the Hudson. It is nice that St. Petersburg is looking up to foreign examples rather than Moscow. Moscow coffee shops seem to have no time for amusement and foam drawings. Everybody is very busy and always in a hurry. Customers could also be offended by mention of their home city.
