Quality of life ranking released

Nizhny Novgorod unexpectedly took a high position in the ranking of cities with a high quality of life. It took the 109th place in the world ranking but still was ranked higher than the other Russian cities. The ranking was published by numbeo.com that analyzes the statistics regarding the cost of living and consumer prices across regions.

The quality of life ranking was based on such indicators as purchasing power, safety, healthcare, the cost of living, real estate prices as opposed to income, environment and climate. In addition to Nizhny Novgorod, the list of 226 cities includes St. Petersburg (182nd place), Moscow (191st place), Yekaterinburg (199th) and Novosibirsk (206th).

Canberra took the first place in the ranking. Australia’s capital and largest city has a population of around 300,000. The Dutch city of Eindhoven came second, followed by Raleigh, the second largest city in North Carolina, USA. The city has a nickname, ‘oak city’, due to a great number of oaks. Raleigh has under 500,000 residents.

The last place in the ranking was taken by Caracas, Venezuela. Other outsiders include Beijing, Shanghai, Tehran and even Rio de Janeiro.
