A robot-tended dairy farm has opened in Nikiforovsky county of the Tambov Region; the Danish-made robots are not only used for milking cows, but also for feeding cattle and harvesting manure.

The RUR120 mio ($1.8 mio) farm keeps approximately 500 milk cows. More than half of the investment was provided by the state bank VTB under a five-year concessional loan. Governor of the Tambov Region Alexander Nikitin attended the opening ceremony of the Golitsyno company’s project.
“Many Russian dairy producers are opening automated farms, and these investments will certainly pay off in the future,” said Natalia Chizh, an expert on the agricultural and food market. “For the time being, only relatively small farms use robotic technology, but with the development of robotics, robots will soon be capable of tending to a cattle population of 5,000 heads and even more.”
