Russia discloses official unemployment statistics

More and more Russians are losing jobs, as is evidenced by the official Ministry of Labor statistics: a total of 2.4 mio unemployed are now registered around the country.

During the pandemic, the number of people losing income has been growing by 220K–250K every week, the Ministry of Labor reported. However, in June the number of new unemployed declined compared to April and May, according to the ministry officials.

In early June, the weekly increase was 150K, suggesting that the growth of unemployment slowed down. In April, 450K people registered as unemployed, and another 930K in May, Kommersant business daily writes.
