Vladimir Putin held a regular meeting with government members in the Kremlin, presidential web page reported. One of the subjects discussed was road construction in Russia.

As Minister of Transport Yevgeny Ditrikh pointed out, the plans for 2019 are very ambitious as 27,600 kilometers of federal, regional and municipal roads should be repaired and overhauled, 2K kilometers of new roads should be built, reconstructed or upgraded.

“Federal roads account for only 540 kilometers of the newly-built roads, and the rest is regional roads. Regions and cities account for 20K kilometers of repaired roads (27,500 kilometers),” he said. “The 2018 indicators have been exceeded by 20%, as far as the regional network is concerned. We continue developing the network of toll roads. This year, over RUR 50 bln ($770 mio) in extra-budgetary investment went to build such roads. By the end of 2019, there will be almost 1,500 kilometers of toll roads in Russia, which is 36% more than last year. We plan to launch a barrier-free payment system with no gates, so that people waste no time at toll booths.”
