Russia may become ‘hydrogen power’

Russia is going to strengthen its position in the energy resource market and may become one of the world’s largest producers of hydrogen, the German business daily Handelsblatt reported.

According to experts, Russian gas and nuclear energy giants Gazprom and Rosatom will begin producing hydrogen in 2024. Meanwhile, opportunities will be considered soon for the use of hydrogen at natural gas facilities. Hydrogen can also be used as fuel for various types of transport.

Rosatom is also planning to develop hydrogen energy production capacities, with experimental railway testing area to be built for hydrogen-powered vehicles in 2024.

According to Western experts, Russia will use the offshore gas pipeline Nord Stream 2 to transport hydrogen, the PolitRussia news website reported.
