Russia ranks seventh on the list of countries that drink the most alcohol, according to the Health at a Glance 2019 report compiled by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. Lithuania is cited as the heaviest-drinking country.

Alcohol consumption has declined in Russia since 2007, experts note; yet, it remains quite high at 11 liters of pure alcohol per person per year. This is high, but not the highest level in the world. The residents of Lithuania appear to be the heaviest drinkers on the planet, with average pure alcohol consumption at 12.3 liters.

Austria is in second place and France in third, with 11.8 and 11.7 liters of alcohol per year, respectively. The top five also include the Czech Republic and Luxembourg, followed by Latvia and Ireland.

Indonesia tops the ranking of countries where they drink the least alcohol, followed by Turkey and Israel.
