Russians buy more smart phones

In 2018 Russians bought a total of RUR 469 bio ($6.9 bio) worth of smart phones. More than 30 mio smart phones were sold across the country over the last year, according to a report by mobile retailer Svyaznoi/Euroset.

In 2018 the Russian smart phone market grew by 17% compared to the previous year. The average price of a smart phone in Russia was RUR 15.7K ($233), Prime reports. The largest growth was demonstrated in the segment of smart phones over RUR 40K ($595) which showed a 49% increase. This segment accounts for 31% of the total market.

The segment of smart phones that cost RUR 10K ($145) to RUR 15K ($223) also grew significantly bringing 44% more revenue than in 2017. Most popular smart phones were Samsung, followed by Huawei/Honor and Apple. Apple yielded the largest revenue, followed by Samsung and Huawei/Honor.

Experts note that Russians prefer high-tech smart phones that support NFC that allows contactless payments. Another popular feature is multiple cameras.
