Russians make most purchases in Italy and UAE

American corporation Visa has named the countries where Russian citizens made the most expensive New Year purchases this year. Among the top ones are Italy, UAE and Thailand.

During the New Year holidays, Russian owners of Visa cards made purchases abroad worth RUR 20 bln ($301 mio), about 5.2% more than last year. This year, the average purchase cost has been RUR 5,542, which is 3.4% less than in 2018. Overall, 27% of electronic payments abroad are made with Visa cards, RBC news agency reported.

The most expensive purchases were made by Russians in Italy, with $29 mio spent during the holidays. Top countries also include the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, the United States, France, Germany, and Spain. Russian citizens hold the top spot as regards shopping in certain countries. Predictably, those are CIS states – Belarus, Armenia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Top three shopping locations are hotels, clothing stores, and restaurants.
