Russians over 40 to receive extra day off

Russia’s State Duma has approved in its third reading a draft law that stipulates providing an extra day off work to citizens aged over 40.

The text of the document has been posted on the Duma’s official site.

Employees have to undergo a scheduled medical examination once a year, with the employer offering a paid day off instead of a one-day leave of absence.

Currently, Russians are provided with a day off for a routine medical checkup once every three years. People nearing retirement age receive three extra days off every year to this end.

After undergoing all necessary procedures, employees must obtain a certificate at the medical institution and present it to their employer as an evidence of spending the day off to take a medical checkup.

According to the draft law, such labor obligations can be envisaged in a collective agreement or a local normative act.

The document has been submitted for approval by the Federation Council.
