Russians return to foreign resorts

Russians are travelling to foreign resorts again now. Turkey has been their most frequent destination during the pandemic, RBC writes citing bank data on customer spending.

Although their bank card spending has apparently increased compared to last year, so far, it has not yet regained the 2019 level. According to Bank Russian Standard, its clients spent 71% more money abroad from June 22 to July 25 than in the same period a year earlier. The average check for card transactions was RUR 12,088 ($165.5).

Credit Bank of Moscow also recorded a rise in people’s spending outside Russia. In June-July 2021, the growth was 30% compared to the same period last year. The number of operations more than doubled.

Gazprombank noted an increase in foreign currency payments by 185% from June 22 to July 20, compared to the same period in 2020. However, their volume was still below the 2019 figures.

Invest Foresight previously reported that tourists had begun to cancel trips to Krasnodar Territory resorts because of the entry restrictions imposed by the regional authorities.
