The majority of Russians support increasing the income tax for people making more than RUR 5 mio ($70K) from 13% to 15%, according to the National Public Opinion Research Center.

Sociologists found that 63% of Russians support increasing the tax on accumulated profits, Kommersant reports. Contribution of this increased tax revenue to social causes is among the pros of such an increase. Russians also believe that it would be a fair decision that will shorten the gap between the wealthy and the poor.

Only 12% of respondents are against increasing the income tax. They believe it will make the life of ordinary Russians more complicated and result in higher taxes for the poor as well.

Many Russians (22%) also said that they don’t care if the tax on accumulated wealth will be raised.
