Russia’s largest solar power center opens near Orenburg

The Sorochinskaya and Novosergiyevskaya solar power plants opened in the Orenburg Region. These plants have a capacity of 105 MW which makes them the largest in Russia.

The key elements of the power plants were produced in Russia. For example, photo cells were provided by Hevel (Chuvashia). Development of these innovative facilities is part of the Solar System federal program on renewable energy sources. T Plus is in charge of the project. The opening ceremony was attended by T Plus Board Chairman Denis Pasler and Orenburg Region Governor Yury Berg. The power plants of the future received RUR 10 bio ($150 mio). In the next four years T Plus plans to invest another RUR 8.5 bio ($127.6 mio).

“Solar power plants are sources of energy of the future. The world’s most progressive companies deal with solar panel production. Specifically, Elon Musk is largely involved in the industry,” says economist Dmitry Afanasyev. “Solar power can be used both by households (rooftop solar panels) and entire cities. Russia has all the resources to develop solar power plants as many regions enjoy a sufficient number of sunshine days.”
