Russia’s state statistics agency warns of population drop

Russia’s population will considerably decrease in 15 years, representatives of Russia’s Federal Service for State Statistics (Rosstat) said.

According to the agency, by 2036 the number of the country’s residents may decline by ten million people, RBC business daily reported. Currently, Russia’s population totals 146 million; by 2036, it may drop to 134 million. Yet, according to an alternative scenario forecast by the Rosstat agency, the country’s population may grow to 150 million.    

The agency specialists note that between 2022 and 2028, the country will be facing the impact of a demographic pitfall, with the natural population decline reaching 583K in seven years.
