Formally, there is no transport cluster in Skolkovo,” co-chair of the Skolkovo Foundation Arkady Dvorkovich noted commenting on the agreement. “The unmanned taxi was not originally a priority for the innovation city. But we can see how in any industry, innovative technologies become part of regular business. The transport industry models developed and tested here, such as driverless taxis, can be a good practice for use throughout the country and in other countries.”

The Skolkovo-GLONASS agreement is aimed to support and implement high-tech developments adapted to the specifics of the Russian transport industry. President of NP GLONASS Alexander Gurko noted:

We hope to demonstrate the economic efficiency of the new smart transport system technology.”

Under the agreement, in 2018-2019, NP GLONASS will establish a development arm, Smart Transport Systems, to track traffic in Skolkovo. In the future, the system will help reduce traffic jams, increase safety, manage passenger traffic to reduce travel time and make getting around more convenient.

According to Chairman of the Board of Skolkovo Foundation Igor Drozdov, the innovation center was originally intended as a test ground for new technologies.

I am glad that this is finally happening. We are testing a 5G network there, and an unmanned taxi has been launched. I hope cooperation with NP GLONASS will be another tool we will use for testing advanced smart transport solutions,” Drozdov said.
