About Us

Startup Village 2018 is the sixth annual international conference for tech entrepreneurs, which is unique for Russia in terms of contents and scale. The main purpose of the conference is to bring tech entrepreneurs in contact with successful businessmen, major industrialists, investors, government officials and with each other. This is the only open-air startup conference taking place at Skolkovo, Russia’s first innovation center. The event is organized by the Skolkovo Foundation.

The Skolkovo Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in September 2010 on the initiative of the Russian president. The Foundation’s objectives are to create a conducive environment for entrepreneurship and research across five priority areas: energy efficiency and energy saving, nuclear technology, space exploration, biomedicine, strategic computer technology and software development. The activities of the Skolkovo Innovation Center, managed by the Skolkovo Foundation, are regulated by a special law which provides the start-ups which are approved after a technology review (currently, there are over 1,800 of them) a number of financial privileges. The cumulative revenue of Skolkovo resident companies in 2011-2016 is over 147 billion rubles. These companies have created over 27,000 jobs and patented over 1,200 inventions and technological solutions. Another important element of the Skolkovo ecosystem is Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech), established and operating in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. By 2020, over 2 million square meters of industrial, residential and office space will have been built in Skolkovo, with 35,000 people working there. Website
