Smart buses to count passengers

In 2020, Moscow will receive new buses equipped with automated monitoring systems.

The system will count passengers while they board and exit. The counting system will allow the Mosgortrans public transportation company to see the real passenger flow on various routes and assess the need in additional buses. The new system will also be able to inspect tickets; notably, unlike the traditional validators, the smart ones will be able to take photos of passengers, and also memorize and recognize them. So maybe the day is not far away when buses will greet their regular passengers. The equipment will be installed by the MaximaTelecom and Itelma technology companies.

The renewal of the passenger fleet is a priority for Mosgortrans. Since the beginning of 2019, over a thousand new buses have appeared on Moscow streets. The new buses have climate control systems and are accessible for persons with disabilities and parents with baby carriages.

Plans call for purchasing 696 metro train cars, almost 1.5 K buses, 300 electric buses and 100 trams in 2020.
