Sri Lanka to buy Russian helicopters and weaponry

Sri Lanka may buy more Russian-made helicopters, Sri Lankan Chief of the Defense Staff Adm. Ravindra Chandrasiri Wijegunaratne said on the sidelines of the Army 2019 defense forum.

“Russian Mi-17 and Mi-24 helicopters are well-known for their reliability, so we are looking into buying more,” Wijegunaratne said. Sri Lanka, however, needs to first negotiate a deal to get some financial support from the seller, he admitted.

The 5th Army 2019 International Military-Technical Forum is taking place at the Patriot Exhibition Center in the Moscow Region on June 25-30.
