Stephen Kotkin: Russia has every chance to be a prosperous and stable country

On the sidelines of the Gaidar Forum, organized by the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration and taking place in Moscow, Stephen Kotkin, Director of Princeton University’s Institute of International and Regional Studies, was approached by Invest Foresight for a comment regarding possible developments in the near future.

“The world will surprise in 2020, just as it does every year. Farther into the future, the world will surprise even more. What will remain constant, to a considerable extent, is the enduring key to unlocking prosperity and stability: investment in human capital, infrastructure, and good governance,” Mr Kotkin said. “Russia has every chance to be a prosperous and stable country, too, if it radically improves its human capital, infrastructure, and governance.”

“Externally, for peace, there will need to be mutual management of the deep differences in state interests and values among the most powerful countries,” he noted.
