Togliatti, home to AvtoVAZ car plant, is taking efforts to move beyond the status of a single-industry city by boosting activities in the priority development area.
On November 7, a new production facility was launched at the Rosskat cable plant, which provides copper cables to largest electrical equipment manufacturers, including Samara’s Elektroshchit plant.
“The production aims to develop new import substitution technologies that have export potential”, Rosskat director general Nikolai Taran said.
The new facility’s capacity will total to 12,000 tons per year. The facility, with over RUR 1 bln ($15 mio) invested, has already provided jobs to 300 local residents since the launch. Following the partial relocation of St. Petersburg’s Sevkabel cable products manufacturing plant to Togliatti, the number of new jobs is expected to reach 1,000.
