Traffic lights make people happier

Traffic lights in Moscow are constantly being adjusted to keep everybody happy. Traffic light timers have been adjusted at another 26 pedestrian crossings, Moscow Mayor’s official website reports. In April 2018, the city started adjusting traffic light timers by popular demand; traffic lights have already been readjusted at 212 pedestrian crossings.

Some traffic lights now stay green longer than before and vice versa, depending on the time of the day and days of the week.

For example, traffic lights at the intersection of the Profsoyuznaya and Garibaldi streets start flashing green 25 seconds earlier during the rush hour and those at the intersection of Generala Beloborodova Street and 1st Penyaginsky Proyezd stay green 12 seconds longer.

“We are streamlining traffic light timers at the most congested intersections by popular demand. At the same time, we heed the road situation near zebra crossings, so that the readjustments do not cause any traffic headaches. Changing traffic light timers should make everyone happy be it pedestrians or drivers,” Deputy Chief of the Traffic Management Centre Dmitry Gorshkov elucidated.
