Military personnel from the first group of 50 volunteers who arrived at a special medical facility of the Russian Ministry of Defense two days ago, underwent a comprehensive in-depth medical examination in preparation for an experiment to test a new vaccine against COVID-19 on humans. All volunteers and medical staff who will provide the experiment were tested for a new coronavirus infection, Defense Ministry’s website reports. On June 4 the group of volunteers was placed on a14-day isolation to prepare for the upcoming vaccination subject to results of medical research.

There is a separate isolated medical building on the territory of the medical facility for conducting the experiment. A thorough disinfection and special treatment of all wards, laboratories, procedural, administrative and other premises of the building had been performed.

The Russian Defense Ministry and Gamalei National Research Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology thus start clinical trials of a unique domestic vaccine against coronavirus infection. This vaccine has passed the stage of testing for toxicity, safety, immunogenicity and protective effectiveness on large and small animals at the Central Research Institute of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
