Yaroslavl will begin to extract useful chemical elements from old batteries

A consortium in Yaroslavl will recycle used batteries.

Used batteries will go through complex processing at one of the first battery recycling lines in Russia, with an almost complete cycle. The facility will extract from the batteries and accumulators almost all chemical elements suitable for further use. It is important that the used energy sources will be processed on Russian-made equipment with production capacity of up to 3 tons per shift.

The project was implemented as part of a tripartite agreement signed between the government of the Yaroslavl Region, Duracell Russia and the National Environmental Company.

It is worth emphasizing that the problem of disposal and recycling of used batteries and accumulators is growing increasingly acute. There is no unified official statistics, but, according to expert estimates, only about 1% of all batteries are recycled in Russia. At the same time, for example, in St. Petersburg alone, about 100 million batteries with a total weight of 2,000 tons get annually thrown in the trash.
