Air pollution to cost Russia hundreds of millions of dollars

Russia’s economy will lose hundreds of millions of dollars due to air pollution, according to analysts of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Polluted air costs the global economy 0.3% of the global GDP annually, with another 6% lost due to a necessity to provide social support resulting from environmental issues, the Vedomosti business daily reported. Expert estimate that air pollution cost Russia $447 bln in 2015 alone, which amounts to 12.5% of the GDP, the world’s largest figure in relative terms. As regards absolute terms, China has the world’s worst air pollution; the country loses $1.6 tln due to the issue.
