When asked a question on the economic impact of the construction of a bridge in the Samara Region at the annual news conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin said it will have a solely positive effect.

The bridge across the Volga, currently under construction, will connect Klimovka with the city of Togliatti in the Samara Region and will be part of the Europe-Western China international transport corridor. According to the President, the project will influence the national economy in the best possible way.

Overall, the construction of roads, particularly those connecting Russia with China, is crucially important for the economy. This infrastructure is underdeveloped in Russia, which has fallen behind Kazakhstan in certain aspects, Vladimir Putin admitted.

“Bridge construction is one of the areas of modern Russia’s development,” EuroTransStroy General Director Sergei Rakcheyev told Invest Foresight. “We can often observe drastically different living conditions in different parts of a region as they are divided by water areas lacking advanced bridge crossings. Such situation is observed in Yakutia, which desperately needs a bridge across Lena River; a relevant decision on the bridge construction has been recently made by the President. The project will allow for the region’s expansive development and will open an additional route to the Pacific Ocean,” Rakcheyev said.

On December 19, a completion was announced of the construction of the Crimean Bridge, which links Crimea to the Krasnodar Territory. The bridge’s railway section is ready for service. The facility plays a crucial role for connecting the Crimean Peninsula to the rest of Russia.
