ALROSA’s environmental achievements

ALROSA diamond miner entered the top 10 of annual Environmental Transparency Rating among mining and metals companies of Russia, corporate website reports. WWF Russia initiated this Rating with the support of the European Union and UN Environment Program. The Rating evaluates environmental management as well as the company’s environmental impact and level of disclosures. ALROSA was highlighted for active cooperation during the Rating calculation.

In 2019, the Rating became a part of the WWF-EU People for Nature project. The main objectives of the research are to increase the corporate responsibility of mining and metals companies and to create effective industry-stakeholders engagement mechanisms.

The WWF rating allows comparing information on the level of environmental responsibility of mining and metals companies and the scale of their impact on the environment, including biodiversity conservation, and also gives an idea of the dynamic pattern of the industry as a whole.

In 2018, ALROSA spent over RUR 5 bln ($80 mio) on environment protection.

ALROSA is indexed by FTSE4Good Index Series created by the global index and data provider FTSE Russell, which measures the performance of companies demonstrating strong Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices. The company also has a BB rating in the MSCI ESG rating system that assesses environment, social responsibility and corporate governance. Besides, ALROSA holds a certificate of the Responsible Jewellery Council’s Code of Practices, acknowledging its highest ethical, human rights, social and environmental standards.
