Azerbaijan to boost car production

Automobile industry has been playing an important role in Azerbaijan’s non-oil industry in recent years, Trend news agency reports. The country’s automotive production will reach $20 mio in 2019 and $70 mio by 2022.

Azerbaijan produced 1,688 cars over January-September 2019, which is 3.7 times more than over the same period in 2018. The total production of cars, trailers and semi-trailers in Azerbaijan amounted to 74.5 mio manats (a 32.2% drop). About 24,088 cars worth almost 335 mio manats ($197 mio) have been imported to the country, as well as 2,262 trucks worth 36.2 mio manats (over $21 mio) and 246 buses worth 27.6 mio manats (over $16 mio).

There are three car manufacturing plants in Azerbaijan (Khazar plant in Neftchala, Ganja Automobile Plant and a plant in Nakhichevan). Khazar plant, which has been operating since March, aims to produce 3K cars in 2019. Ganja Automobile Plant manufactures trucks designed by Belarusian and Russian companies and is the largest assembly plant of Belarusian tractors outside the Eurasian Economic Union.

The plant that opened in Nakhichevan back in 2010, assembles eight models of Lifan cars designed by China’s Lifan Group, which supplies all spare parts to the plant, so that cars may be assembled in Azerbaijan under the immediate supervision of Chinese automotive specialists.
