With a special biochip, it only takes an hour to detect a disease while a standard process usually takes at least 24 hours. The cost of the innovative test is therefore substantially lower.

Besides, the invention makes it possible for an ordinary individual with no education in medicine to employ it. To perform a test, human biomaterial is to be placed into the chip. Defensive proteins inside the device react to the presence of diseased cells, and a respective indicator lights up.

The device is already capable of detecting several types of cancer such as lung cancer, thyroid cancer, and bladder cancer.

According to Vladimir Egorov, project manager at Biomedical Technology cluster of the Skolkovo Foundation:

Technical and laboratory tests of the biochip have been accomplished. In about a year the project’s authors will need to bring it to the clinical tests stage”.
